Congo Basin Pellets putting Africa on the (World of Pellets) map
For all its biomass resources, Africa has pretty much remained a blind spot when it comes to wood pellet plants, in particular “large” such plants. Not from a lack of trying over the years it should be said. However, this could change with Congo Basin Pellets GmbH, the most recent entrant to make an earnest attempt as Bioenergy International finds out.
As it transpires, Congo Basin Pellets (CBP) is an aptly named new starter in the biomass pellets field. No doubt there will be those that find the name extremely provocative – reading it as an intention to convert the world’s second-largest rainforest, the “Green Heart of Africa”, into fuel. Rest assured, it is not. Instead, it is all about transport, logistics and the use of existing unused waste wood resources as founder and owner Chris Fodor explains.
JSC “Radviliskis Machine Factory” was established in 1949. It is the only factory in Baltic states which designs and produces equipment for pellets production. The factory also manufactures agricultural equipment and processes a variety of metalwork operations.
Our products include: straw shredding and pellet producing equipment sets SSGL-1, pellet press OGM-1,5A, combines for picking berries USK-1 “JOVARAS”, seed treating equipment SBI-1, grain mills, fertilizer spreaders, mowers and other.
The factory is capable of carrying out various types of metal processing.
AgroBioHeat project aims to produce a mass deployment of improved and market ready agrobiomass heating solutions in Europe. Agrobiomass is a large, underexploited and indigenous resource, which can support the achievement of the European Energy and Climate targets, while promoting rural development and circular economy.
Actions will be mainly located in 6 European countries (EL, ES, FR, RO, HR and UA; 5 EU-28+Ukraine) where an extensive national movement is intended to be created by the engagement, alignment of interests and creation of policy, financial and social conditions favouring the expansion of agrobiomass heating; at the EU level, specific policy recommendations regarding the efficiency and emissions of agrobiomass heating solutions will be passed on to relevant bodies for the development of new regulations.
